TFAS ALUMNI HOST BOOKSIGNING WITH STUDENTS AT CPAC RECEPTION - 03/01/08

TFAS was part of the action in early February as newsmakers, young leaders and policy makers gathered in Washington for the 2008 Conservative Political Action Conference, which took place at the Omni Shoreham from Feb. 7-9.

With more than 6,000 people in attendance, TFAS representatives were able to meet with numerous students and share with them the many opportunities of its programs.

IPJ Director Joe Starrs organized a “Meet the Newsmakers” reception for CPAC’s student participants. The reception featured TFAS alumni Steve Hayes (A 94) and Scot Faulkner (E 75). Hayes is the author of Cheney: The Untold Story of America’s Most Powerful and Controversial Vice President and Faulkner wrote Naked Emperors: The Failure of the Republican Revolution. The pair took questions, mingled with students and signed copies of their books. Also stopping by the reception was former House Majority Leader Tom Delay.

The three-day conference attracted some of the nation’s most prominent political figures including President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney. Republican presidential candidates John McCain, Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul gave speeches during the event, while former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney formally announced his withdrawl from the race during an address to CPAC participants.

Other noteworthy speakers included author Bob Novak, former White House Press Secretary Tony Snow, John Fund of the Wall Street Journal and former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton.
