ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP FUND RAISES RECORD AMOUNT IN 2007 - 01/01/08

Thanks to a $30,000 challenge by TFAS Regent Lyn Rales, TFAS alumni were motivated to contribute a record $52,302 in 2007. These donations will be used to provide scholarship support for deserving students to attend The Fund’s programs in 2008.

The ASF allows alumni to give back to the programs which, for many, provided life-changing experiences. The scholarship amounts awarded vary from student to student, based on merit and need. Some students require full scholarships in order to attend, but many require only partial scholarships. In 2007, 63% of students received partial scholarships, while only 7% received full funding. These figures show how even small contributions can make the difference between a student being able to attend or not.

According to Vice President of Development, Ed Turner, only $12,015 was raised from alumni in the first 5 months of the year.

“Lyn Rales’ $30,000 challenge was not only key to motivating past alumni contributors to increase their support, but it also brought in many new alumni who gave to the Alumni Scholarship Fund for the first time,” said Turner.

The challenge was in effect from early June until the end of the year, but it was met early, on December 10th. A total of $40,287 was brought in since the challenge was given. While this is certainly cause for celebration, it’s also important to note that the $52,302 was raised from only 221 alumni – 25 of which were alumni from foreign countries, who gave a total of $2,615.

TFAS has educated over 9,500 students from 1,000 colleges and universities in all 50 states and 110 foreign countries. Just think of what could be accomplished if each alumnus contributed even a small amount to help educate tomorrow’s leaders.
