40 NEW CAPITAL SEMESTER STUDENTS ARRIVE IN WASHINGTON - 02/01/08 Forty students moved into their new Capitol Hill apartments on Saturday, Jan. 19 to begin Capital Semester Spring 2008. The group spent their first weekend in Washington getting acquainted with one another and their new home in the Nation’s capital.
The largest spring class to date represents 13 countries, including the United States, Jordan, the People’s Republic of China, Singapore, Lebanon and Cambodia.
CS Manager Lily Pascucci says she has high expectations for this spring’s class. “This is a very impressive group of students,” she said. “There is no limit to what they can accomplish this semester.”
CS participants have been placed at a variety of internship sites around Washington, including the Department of Homeland Security, the German Marshall Fund, American Solutions, the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs and the Woodrow Wilson Institute.
Also included in this spring’s class are eight students enrolled in Capital Semester’s new political journalism track. These college journalists have been placed with some of Washington’s leading news outlets, including The Washington Times, USA Today Live, Roll Call and the Bureau of National Affairs.
In addition to their internships, Capital Semester students have participated in a Meet your Mentor breakfast, toured the monuments and the Spy Museum as well as networked with alumni at a Super Tuesday party at TFAS headquarters.
Alongside their courses and internships, students attend weekly guest lectures by notable speakers, including David Kelley, founder and senior fellow for The Atlas Society and Charlie Mahtesian, national politics editor of Politico.
