ALUMNI AWARDS

TFAS Alumni Awards recognize the distinguished accomplishments of our alumni and commend their dedication and service to TFAS.

John Sweda (E 97) accepts his 2010 Kevin Burket Alumni Service Award during the Annual Conference in Washington on April 16, 2010.



The criteria for each award is as follows:

The Kevin Burket Alumni Service Award
This annual award is given to an alumnus/a who has exemplified commitment to The Fund for American Studies by volunteering their time in an effort to enhance and further the mission of The Fund for American Studies. The recipient of this award has contributed greatly to increasing the value of TFAS programs and the principles imparted to our students.

Criteria:

  • The recipient must be an alumnus/a of at least one TFAS programs(s).
  • The recipient must volunteer a considerable amount of time to TFAS either by recruiting students for program participation, serving in the alumni mentoring program or providing internships for students.
  • The recipient has not previously received an award in this category.
  • The recipient must be able to attend the award ceremony.

Alumni Achievement Award

The Alumni Achievement Award is given to an alumnus/a who has achieved considerable success in a professional field or endeavor. The recipient of this award has attained significant recognition in their career and embodies the values, ideals and potential of an alumnus/a of one of the TFAS programs. The recipients' accomplishments are exceptional and further the goals of The Fund for American Studies.

Criteria:

  • The recipient must be an alumnus/a of at least one TFAS program.
  • The recipient should have identifiable career accomplishments and/or excellence in their specific professional field or endeavor.
  • The recipient has not previously received an award in this category.
  • The recipient must be able to attend the award ceremony.

Young Alumni Award

The Young Alumni Award is given to an alumnus/a who is 30 years of age or younger and has shown great promise in their professional field and/or volunteered considerable time to TFAS or community service.  The recipient of this award embodies the values, ideals and potential of an alumnus/a of one of the TFAS programs.

Criteria:

  • The recipient must be an alumnus/a of at least one TFAS program(s).
  • The recipient must be 30 years of age or younger.
  • The recipient should show great promise or have identifiable accomplishments in their chosen profession or has exemplified commitment to the Fund through fund raising, recruitment of students, or volunteering their time to further the mission of the organization.
  • The recipient must be able to attend the award ceremony.

Chapter of the Year Award

(r.-l.) International Programs Director Michelle Le (J 95, A 96) presents TFAS Serbia Chapter President Andrijana Vojnovic (I 06) with the 2010 Chapter of the Year award.


The Chapter of the Year Award is given annually to a TFAS alumni chapter that has demonstrated extraordinary initiative and innovation in bringing area alumni together.  This is the first TFAS award that will be awarded to a group rather than an individual and as such will place a special emphasis on teamwork. 

Criteria:

  • The recipient must be an alumni chapter recognized by TFAS.
  • An officer of the chapter must be able to attend the award ceremony.
  • The chapter must be able to have shown innovation and initiative in one or more of the following areas:  programming, recruiting new students, engaging area alumni, and fundraising.

Past recipients include:
Croatia Alumni Chapter (2007), Los Angeles Alumni Chapter (2008), Washington, D.C. Chapter (2009), TFAS Serbia (2010)
