LEGAL STUDIES INSTITUTE
What better place to gain valuable legal experience than Washington, D.C., where laws are made, changed, and interpreted? The Fund for American Studies invites first year law students to attend its Legal Studies Institute and gain firsthand exposure to the American legal system.
A nine-week summer program, LSI combines legal clerkships, academic coursework for credit, networking opportunities, and career development activities. The Institute will give participants the opportunity to meet and interact with leaders in the legal profession – enabling them to build a valuable professional network as they enter careers in the law. Enrollment will be limited to allow participants to have significant personal interaction with speakers and instructors. The Institute offers the following five components: - Legal Clerkships
- Seminar on Constitutional Law
- Briefings and Special Events
- Career Development Activities
- Attorney Mentor Program
Schedule LSI will extend for nine weeks from June 1, 2008 to August 3, 2008. Participants should arrange their travel so that they arrive on the afternoon of June 1st and depart on the morning of August 3rd. The first week of the program will be dedicated to the academic seminar and then students will work full time at their clerkships for the remaining eight weeks. Deadlines Applications are reviewed and accepted on a rolling basis, so students are encouraged to apply as early as possible. Students who apply early will receive first consideration for both admission and clerkship placement.
