Tisdale Fellows 2010 Commencement Lunch


The Tisdale Fellowship is designed for outstanding undergraduate students who are interested technology and public policy. The selection committee will be looking for students with a concrete record of academic achievement and civic mindedness. A background in computer science or other high-technology fields is helpful but not required.

Application Process

Applicants should complete the normal application process for the Institute on Business and Government Affairs available at www.DCinternships.org/IBGA and follow the Tisdale specific instructions listed below.

Online Application

  • Professional Resume - Applicants should include all relevant educational, professional, political and civic experience, as well as all awards, recognitions, and fellowships previously received. Please be sure to highlight any relevant technology and public policy coursework, research, and work experience.
  • Topical Essay - (250 – 500 words): Submit and essay on a critical policy, economic or social issue of your choice that is relevant to IBGA/Tisdale, and explain why you believe it is significant.
  • Statement of Purpose*(500 words): *Please note: Tisdale applicants should answer this specialized Statement of Purpose prompt, not the prompt listed within the online application.
    • Answer the following questions: 
      • Why do you want to be a Tisdale Fellow?
      • What personal experiences do you bring to the high-tech public policy arena?
      • What future commitments can you make to high-tech public service, public policy and the internet?
      • What have you done and what commitments are you willing to make to bring the principles of personal decency to your every day interactions?
    • Check the box for "Tisdale Fellowship" within the "First Heard of TFAS" section

Supplemental Materials - Applicants should also submit the following materials: 

  • Official Transcript: From every institution from which you have received college credit. Must be mailed in sealed envelope or faxed/emailed directly from the home university’s registrar using the contact information below.
  • Two Letters of Recommendation: From professors, deans, academic advisors, or past supervisors or employers. Must be sent through the online application system, via fax or mail using the contact information.
  • $50 Application Fee: Must be paid via credit card at the time of submission of the online application or via check mailed to the address listed below.

Scholarship Application 

  • Scholarship Statement (250 words): "Write a brief statement describing your need for a scholarship.”
  • Personal Financial Materials: Must be uploaded into the online application or sent via fax or mail.

Email intent to Apply
Applicants should email Tisdale@TFAS.org to notify the program associate of his or her intent to apply for the Fellowship.

Woodard Fellowship
Tisdale Fellowship applicants intending to apply for the Woodard Fellowship should send the supplementary essay as a Word document to Tisdale@TFAS.org.  Applicants should answer the following question:

  • “Why do you want to apply for the Dell Thurmond Woodard Fellowship? Describe your commitment to the ideals of ethics, diversity, inclusion and collaboration in public policy.”
