NYC ALUMNI WALK THE HIGHLINE AND VISIT THE FRYING PAN
On Wednesday, August 11, alumni in the New York City area gathered together for a drink at the Frying Pan, followed by a walk on the High Line and a visit to the Standard Hotel’s Biergarten.
The Frying Pan, located in the Hudson River Park, was previously used as a floating lighthouse to guide other ships and was built in 1929. It is now docked at Pier 66 Maritime and serves as a bar and grille.
While the group took in the sights and met one another, Director of Alumni Fundraising at TFAS, Kristy Khachigian, gave a few words along with local alumni John Lee (E 85), Herb Stupp (E 70) and chapter president Paul Glader (J 99, A 00).
The group then departed for the High Line on Manhattan's West Side. Running from Gansevoort Street to 34th Street, the High Line was built in the 1930s as part of a public-private infrastructure project, the West Side Improvement. It lifted freight traffic 30 feet in the air, removing dangerous trains from the streets of Manhattan's largest industrial district. It now serves as an elevated public park.
The walk provided the perfect environment for alumni to get to know one another and they even were given free cupcakes during their walk from a local business!
To complete the night, a few alumni then ended with a final drink at the Standard Hotel’s Biergarten.
Of the event, chapter president Paul Glader said it was, “Very, very awesome. The energy and fun was palatable…everyone is already looking forward to the next event.”

This was the third annual event at the Hollywood Bowl for TFAS alumni and was just as much of a success as past years.

Maura Bennardo, manager of alumni affairs at TFAS, attended the event. “It was so great to meet local L.A. alumni and the show was fantastic. It is nice to see a chapter that is so motivated to get together!”
In addition, chapter president Marissa Petersen (P 05) said “It was definitely a success and I look forward to garnering more participation in our events to come!”
