TFAS Virtual Program Brings Best of DC Directly to Students’ Homes

//////////////////////

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak and closures by our university partners, TFAS is unable to offer in-person academic internship programs in Washington, D.C. this summer. We are heartbroken to not be welcoming students to D.C. as we have for 50 years. However, we are determined to find new ways to continue our mission and provide the outstanding programming that our students count on to develop into the honorable leaders that our country and world need.

Earn 3-6 credits from George Mason University by participating in virtual courses focused on active learning.

That’s why we are pleased to announce TFAS Virtual Summer, an interactive online program designed to bring the best of D.C. directly into the homes of our students. The program will include virtual internships, TFAS academic courses, a one-on-one mentoring program, professional development seminars, guest lectures by top policy experts, career exploration panels, small group discussions, site briefings with key government leaders and virtual networking events. The new online program is optional for our enrolled students, and those who are not interested can receive a full refund.

TFAS is uniquely qualified to bring students the ultimate D.C. experience online. For more than 50 years, we have cultivated relationships with D.C.-based institutions and professionals and are working with these partners to bring their expertise directly to students, wherever they may be.

TFAS C-SPAN tour
TFAS alumnus Andrew Bernius ’07 gives students a behind the scenes tour of C-SPAN and shares advice on how to succeed in the field. TFAS Virtual Summer will bring these connections and experiences to you.

Our world-class faculty, led by TFAS Academic Director and Economist Dr. Anne Bradley, will offer students up to six credit hours through our partners at George Mason University. Classes are specially designed with a focus on active learning, including live meetings, an “Economics Bootcamp,” and opportunities for one-on-one meetings with professors during weekly virtual office hours.

Students who successfully complete the TFAS Virtual Summer will become part of our global network of more than 18,000 D.C. and International Programs alumni.

You can find more information about the program, including courses, fees and application instructions here.

We look forward to sharing more news of the program with you in the weeks ahead and hope you will consider sharing the opportunity with the young leaders in your life.

Scholarship Support

virtual small group discussion
Virtual small group sessions and social activities will connect you with passionate emerging leaders from all across the U.S.

Thanks to our generous TFAS supporters, we are offering substantial scholarship funding so most students will pay a fraction of the published price. If you are interested in helping make the TFAS Virtual Summer available to more students, please visit TFAS.org/Support or email Chief Development Officer Matt Bagnoli at matt@TFAS.org.

Host an Intern

Please consider hosting a TFAS student for a virtual internship this summer. Our students are bright and motivated undergraduates ready to learn and help your organizations succeed as they develop essential real-world skills.

We are looking for virtual positions that involve research, writing and other projects that students can work on for 10+ hours a week. Can you or any of your contacts help? If so, please fill out our intern request form here or email Joe Starrs at jstarrs@TFAS.org.
